Amazing what kind of jokes you could get away with in the ‘90’s. Nowadays I’m continually disturbed by the increasingly insane conspiracy theories once-intelligent adults come up with simply by seeing an edgy Minions meme on Facebook and somehow interpreting that as the news.
On one hand, I think people take media, especially children’s cartoons, too seriously for the first time since the 1980’s and their outrage would be better spent on real-world issues. On the other hand, until people thrice my age stop getting their entire worldview from characters you’re not supposed to root for like Eric Cartman or Yosemite Sam, some condescending censorship might be necessary, ironically for the parents and not for the children.
